Today I bring you a review on the Ikea silicone mat. Everyone knows Ikea for selling cheap, Nordic-style furniture, decorations and homeware.
So when I was in my favourite section which is kitchenware I saw a silicone baking mat. If you don’t know what that is, it’s a mat you put in the oven when you’re doing cookies or something like that and because it’s made of silicone the cookies won’t get stuck to it. And it also is economic because you can use it as many times as you want.
That’s the one that I bought, if I can remember correctly it was 6€ which is an amazing price.
So I decided to make some cookies just to try it out. I always use a special paper for the oven from Ikea but I don’t know if they sell it anymore. And the pink silicone mat that I bought isn’t on their website anymore, instead there’s a blue one with a plastic knife that costs 10€.
So, I made the cookies and when they were done I put them out of the oven and it was a DISASTER!
Basically, the top of the cookies were okay but the bottom was not done at all and it felt quite watery. If you think about it, is quite logical because the silicone can’t get the heat through and it can’t get as warm as a baking sheet.
I’ve only try it once, but I will try it again to give it a second chance and I will use a different cookie mix.
