Diagnosed With Acne – Treatment

(I have a feeling this post is going to be longer than usual.)

Okey, so at the begging of February I went to see a dermatologist because my face was full of breakouts and spots up to the point that it hurt. So he diagnosed me with “Adult Acne“, which is basically acne that has come out now and not when I was younger. He told me it was hormonal so there were two ways to treat it:

1.This is the treatment that I’m following. I have to take a pill every day to help my skin to dry a little and reduce the grease under the pores on my face. I have to wash my face every night with a special cleanser that it’s specifically for acne and cleans your skin deeply but it doesn’t irritate it. And I have to put a pomade (gel-like) with antibiotics every night and leave it until the next day when I wash my face in the morning so it disinfects and reduces acne. I also keep my skin hydrated by using this Natura Bissé moisturizer that I love!

2.This is the treatment that I will do if the first one doesn’t completely work or does nothing at all. I will have to take contraceptive pills so I regulate my period, meaning that I will control my hormones too.

It’s been a month since I’ve been doing the treatment #1 and I can see the difference:

  • My face doesn’t hurt all the time.
  • If I get a spot it doesn’t get as infected or swollen as it used to.
  • The amount of spots has reduced.
  • Sometimes there is one spot that does get infected but it calms down in a couple of days, before it would’ve last for more than a week.

The fact that I got acne sucks, but thanks to Instagram I’ve come to find amazing people like Kali (@myfacestory), Kadeeja (esmeraldxbeauty), Elisabeth (prettyprogress23) that truly empowers and inspires me to be okey with my skin and makes me see that I’m not alone in this.

So, yes, there’re some days when I don’t want to leave my house and I fell very insecure and I feel like everybody is watching me, but you have to overcome those days. For me, following the treatment like a religion and feeling like I’m actually doing something makes me feel better. And knowing that there is a lot of people out there going through the same and being able to interact with them thanks to social media really really helps.

My journey to get rid of acne just started but I know that it will be fine and if you’re going through the same you should know that too!

Have a nice Monday. I will come with another post very soon!
